Taking an air conditioning system combining surface water and cooling towers as a study object, establishes an equipment modeling and system simulation platform and analyses the operation control strategies. The analysis indicates that the operating on-off of different cold sources are mainly influenced by outdoor climate conditions and the distance between surface water sources and machine rooms. Taking a building in Shanghai as an example, applies a composite cooling air conditioning system based on surface water source and cooling tower. When the distance between the surface water and the air conditioning machine room is less than 154.7 meters, the energy efficiency of running surface water-source air conditioning system only is higher than that of the composite cooling air conditioning system. When the distance is longer than 1 237.8 meters, the air conditioning system using cooling tower is more energy efficient. While the distance is between 154.7 meters and 1 237.8 meters, the on-off strategy is related to the outdoor climate. For example, when the outdoor air temperature is 26 ℃ and the distance is less than 773.6 meters, it is appropriate to use the surface water-source air conditioning system, while the air conditioning system with cooling tower should be used when the distance exceeds 773.6 meters.
